Fever Fest 08

Elemental

July 23rd-26th, 2008
Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center

Wednesday- Friday at 8:00pm
Saturday at 2:00 & 8:00pm

For the third year running, Whistler in the Dark presents FeverFest – an explosive collection of work by some of Boston’s most vital young companies. Founded in 2006 as a chance for those companies to explore work that they might otherwise never have the chance to tackle, FeverFest has established itself as one of the most exciting theatrical events of summer in Boston.

This year’s festival is a true exploration in theater—plays, new and devised work, excerpts—and promises to uphold that reputation. From Gertrude Stein to William Donnelly, traditional theatre to multi-media performance art, FeverFest will delve into the deepest crevices of the imagination to mine the theatrical potentials exposed in this year’s theme: elemental.

Returning to FeverFest for the third year, Mill 6 Collaborative presents a World Premiere. Local favorite William Donnelly's Aether explores two neighbors who may have more in common than just a back porch. Or, maybe not.

FeverFest's other unofficial resident company returns for a third year as well: imaginary beasts brings their hallmark theatrical whimsy to play in Gertrude Stein's Three Sisters Who Are Not Sisters, an homage to murder mysteries.

The Orfeo Group - fresh on the heels of their critically aclaimed production of Look Back in Anger - moves from a modern classic to a brand new script as they tackle Martha's (b)Rainstorm, a vibrant piece by local playwright John J King.

Jordan Harrison leads a troup of four performers in the aptly titled Four - an amalgam of movement, music, and video projections exploring interweaving and overlapping points-of-view, as well as mining the various theatrical elements for their deepest values.

Theo Goodell's awake/i slept for miles exists in the No Man's Land between dream and reality and charts the internal topography of the less-than-lucid mind through a combination of hyperbolic/onomatopoeic language, clock-radio sound collage, and Emergency Procedure Aerobics.

Making its Boston debut with FeverFest is The New Exhibition Room. Inspired by mythology, silent film, Supreme Court precedences, and Sesame Street, Shh! is an ensemble-created piece that will explore these questions and the complexities of freedom and repression

And finally, Whistler in the Dark presents an excerpt from Andy Mitton's new play Love Lies Burning. Lucy has just gotten married - her best friend Hope is less than pleased. In two scenes, we explore the boundaries of self and friendship.

Join us as nearly 30 artists representing 7 companies explore the theatrical elements.
