Whistler in the Dark Theatre is an exploration. Founded by Ben Fainstein and Meg Taintor in September 2005, its inception was sparked by the desire to delve into vividly dramatic texts and to bring back young people to the theatre.
During its first six seasons, Whistler has presented thirteen full-length plays, and sponsored three years of FeverFest – a festival devoted to providing opportunities to connect exploratory artists with adventurous audiences by creating an outlet for innovative, cutting-edge, and contemporary performance in the Greater Boston area.
In 2009, Whistler joined together with other small and fringe theatres in the Greater Boston area to form The Small Theatre Alliance of Boston, an organization dedicated to fostering growth of small theatres and emerging artists in the Boston theatre community. The Alliance is currently in its second year of existence, with over 20 member organizations representing the full breadth of Boston small and fringe theatre.
Whistler received an Elliot Norton Award nomination for its production of Howard Barker's The Possibilities.
