Meron Langsner is proud to be joining Whistler in the Dark as an Artistic Associate this season after many collaborations as both a fight director/movement specialist and writer.
Meron was the National New Play Network Emerging Playwright in Residence at New Repertory Theatre in 2007-2008 (one of three writers in the country selected for the pilot year of the program). His plays have been performed around the country and overseas, and developed at venues that include the Lark Play Development Center, New Rep, and the Last Frontier Theatre Conference (where he returned as a featured artist). His plays have been published by Smith & Kraus, Applause Theatre Books, YouthPLAYS, and other imprints.
As a fight director and movement specialist, Meron has composed violence and/or movement for well over 100 productions and short films for venues that include Merrimack Rep, New Rep, Lyric Stage, Zeitgeist Stage, Company One, Ensemble Studio Theatre, and numerous educational organizations.
In 2011 he was awarded a residency at the Playwrights Commons Freedom Arts Retreat in New Hampshire, and in 2010 he was a summer fellow at Northwestern University's Performance Studies Institute.
Meron is also a stage director, theatre & performance scholar, dramaturg, and educator.
He holds a PhD in Drama from Tufts University, an MFA in Playwriting from Brandeis, and an MA in Performance Studies from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He is the recipient of the Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Tufts.
